This fourth installment of the Geza Anda edition in the SWR music / hänssler CLASSIC historical series presents the first and the last Beethoven’s piano concertos. As was the case in Anda’s recordings of the complete Mozart piano concertos for the Deutsche Grammophon, Anda performs in the First Concerto as both soloist and conductor. These recordings of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 5 are a real enrichment of the Anda Discography – no other recording of this concert has ever been released. In this respect this moving encounter artistic is truly unique.

Géza Anda belongs to that small group of 20th Century pianists, whose musicianship and artistic conception has become the standard for future generations. In his concerts, Anda consistently presented a spontaneity and reflection that would create a long-lasting impression on its hearers, where self-expression had no place.
