Writing of Vol. 6 (CD 98.206) Piano News wrote: “From the first notes of both of these sonatas, one’s attention is immediately focused: Oppitz approaches the opening of the Waldstein Sonata at exactly the correct speed and with the correct coloring: precise but not detached, passionate but always transparent, allowing the interplay of counterpoint to shine through effectively.

As for the “Appassionata” again Oppitz has correctly calculated his approach, focusing on the passionate outbursts and feelings of nervous energy and disruption. The runs - like a string of pearls; the chord – razor-sharp in their attack; a sense of foreboding underlying the rhythms and driving the melodic shapes. And so, Beethoven's cosmos continues to unfold.
